Liebestraum No. 3 in A flat major is the most familiar of Franz Liszt's three Liebesträume (Dreams of Love), S. 541, published in 1850. Liszt first conceived all three as songs on poems by Ludwig Uhland and Ferdinand Freiligrath, and in 1850 they appeared at the same time as songs for high voice and piano and as piano solos. No. 3 follows Freiligrath's poem O lieb, so lang du lieben kannst (Love as long as you can), about unconditional, mature love. The piece has three sections, each divided by a fast cadenza that needs nimble fingers and real technique. One melody runs through all of it and is varied, most strikingly at the climax near the middle, where it is played in octaves and then in arpeggios. The chart is 1,888 notes over 4:04. It averages 7.7 notes per second, and the busiest 25 seconds, 1:07 to 1:32, reach 14.1, so most of it is a singing melody and a few passages ask for speed. The notes run from A flat1 to G7, and 39 of them fall outside a 61-key keyboard.

The best known of Liszt's three Liebesträume, a nocturne in A flat published in 1850.

It runs at about 7.7 notes per second and peaks at 14.1. The right hand plays 58% of the 1,888 notes and the left 42%. The notes run A flat1 to G7, 5.9 octaves, which is past what a 61-key board reaches at one end or the other. Klaviero rates it tier 4 of 5.
