This Siciliano is a short piano piece by August Eberhard Müller, a German organist, choir leader and composer who lived from 1767 to 1817. He studied with Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach at Bückeburg, became organist of St. Nicholas Church in Leipzig in 1794 and succeeded Johann Adam Hiller as Thomaskantor there in 1804. He kept J. S. Bach's works in the repertoire, and for the piano he wrote two concertos, fourteen sonatas, capriccios and smaller pieces. A siciliano is a slow piece in 6/8 or 12/8 with a lilting, often dotted rhythm and a pastoral mood, usually in a minor key. Mutopia, whose engraving this chart is built from, dates its source edition only to the late 19th century. The chart is 263 notes over 46 seconds, and the left hand plays 144 of them, 25 more than the right. It averages 5.6 notes per second and never goes above 5.9, so the pace hardly changes from start to finish; the busiest 25 seconds run from 0:18 to 0:43. Every note lies between C2 and A5, so a 49-key keyboard covers it.
