You own a MIDI keyboard and you are typing letters into Roblox
If you play the piano games on Roblox, you already know the setup. The sheets are letters. You type them on a computer keyboard. If you own an actual MIDI keyboard, you have probably tried to connect it, found that you cannot, and ended up running a bridge program that turns your keys into fake keystrokes.
That bridge is why it feels wrong.
Klaviero needs a MIDI keyboard and Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Opera on a desktop or laptop. It will not work in Safari or on an iPad, because Apple has not implemented Web MIDI and requires every browser on iOS to use Safari's engine, so switching browsers there does not help. Full requirements.
The number
On 20 July 2026 a developer on the Roblox DevForum measured the lag on exactly this setup. He recorded his keyboard's sound and Roblox's sound at the same time and measured the gap between the two onsets. His result: about 286 milliseconds. A reply in the same thread called that massive for a musical instrument, which it is.
The part that matters: the Roblox engine itself was reporting 1 to 2ms. The 286ms is the pipeline. MIDI goes into a script, the script fakes a keypress, Roblox reads the keypress. Roblox has no native MIDI input, so there is no way to skip the middle.
For scale, 286ms is roughly the gap between two notes of a piece played at a moderate tempo. You are hearing the previous note while you play the next one.
Why this is not a bug someone will fix
Roblox does not expose MIDI input to games. It has been asked for since at least 2018 on their own forum, and the answer has been consistent: there is no MIDI support, so you have to translate MIDI keys into computer keyboard keys and simulate that input.
Every tool built for this problem is a translation layer. The Python bridges, the sheet converters, the autoplayers. They all do the same thing because there is nothing else to do.
What actually works
Play somewhere that reads MIDI directly.
Browsers have had the Web MIDI API since 2015. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera all support it. Your keyboard is a device the page can read directly: no bridge process, no simulated keystrokes, no 286ms.
Klaviero is a falling-notes piano game built on it. Same shape as the Roblox piano games, in that notes come at you, you play them, and you get a score. Different foundation:
- Notes fall in lanes, one per key, right hand cyan, left hand magenta
- Every note is judged PERFECT, GREAT, GOOD or MISS
- Combo multiplier ×1 to ×6, FEVER at a 25-note streak
- A grade, S down to D, saved per piece
- 315 classical pieces, or drop in your own MIDI file
- An MP3 becomes a playable arrangement, transcribed in your browser
If you already have a folder of MIDI files from converting Roblox sheets, they load straight in.
What you give up
Multiplayer. The Roblox piano rooms are social and Klaviero is not. Nobody is going to hear you play.
Free-form playing. Roblox pianos let you improvise anything. Klaviero is chart-based, so you play what falls, or you upload a chart of your own.
If you are keeping both
Reasonable. Roblox for the rooms and the friends, Klaviero when you actually want to play the keyboard. The MIDI files move between them in one direction already, since every Roblox sheet started life as one.
If you want somewhere to start, Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee is 1,310 notes in 1:09 and it is in the free tier. That is 18.8 notes per second, sustained, for the whole piece.
Latency figures on this page are from the Roblox DevForum thread "MIDI based Virtual Piano Engine", 19 to 20 July 2026, read on 2026-08-06. Roblox having no native MIDI input is what the thread establishes; individual Roblox games may still work with third-party bridges.
